The Barkly Regional Council (BRC) is pleased to announce that Mayor Sid Vashist has been appointed as a board member of Tourism Central Australia (TCA). This appointment comes alongside a significant milestone in TCA’s history, as its recent Annual General Meeting saw a constitutional change granting voting rights to representatives of both Barkly Regional Council and Alice Springs Town Council.
Mayor Vashist praised TCA’s long-standing commitment to promoting the vibrant and diverse tourism offerings of Central Australia. "Congratulations to the TCA team for their continued dedication to showcasing our region's unique culture, landscapes, and attractions," Mayor Vashist said.
BRC appreciates constitutional change and views it as an important advancement in strengthening the local government’s role in regional tourism. "This decision allows BRC to actively contribute to the governance, strategic direction, and decision-making processes of TCA. It acknowledges the importance of local government partnerships in shaping the tourism story of Central Australia," Mayor Vashist stated.
The Barkly region, known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, stands as one of Central Australia’s hidden treasures. Mayor Vashist emphasised that this new voting right ensures that Barkly Regional Council can play a key role in guiding TCA’s vision and ensuring a positive impact for the entire region.
The newly appointed position of Mayor Vashist presents a unique opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the Barkly Regional Council and TCA to promote the beautiful Barkly region as a must-visit destination.
This collaborative step forward marks a renewed era of regional tourism development, with local governments and stakeholders united in supporting sustainable growth and prosperity for Central Australia.
