The Tennant Creek Public Library is a free service provided by the Barkly Regional Council. Residents and visitors to Tennant Creek are welcome to make use of the library’s friendly services

Joining the library
Easy .. for a free full membership, all we need is official proof of Tennant Creek residency and photo ID
Parents or Guardians of children under 18 are required to provide proof of identity and residency as per full membership on behalf of the child. Those aged less than 18 years but living independently need to provide proof of identity and residency as per full membership
For temporary residents of Tennant Creek who wish to borrow from the library a refundable security deposit of $50 and photo ID is required.

How much can I borrow?
You may borrow a maximum of 10 items
- Books, audiobooks, music CDs, magazines – 4 weeks
- DVDs – 1 week
After hours return chute
The return chute is located left of the front entrance to the library
All items can be renewed once, provided:
- no-one else has requested the item
- the item is not overdue.
You can renew items on the library catalogue or by contacting the library.
What can I use at the library?
- Wireless internet access using your own laptop or device .. (non-members pay a small fee)
- Computers - Internet access (non-members pay a small fee)
- Photocopying or printing 40c per page
E-Information for library members
Library members have access to many online databases from the library or from their own computer. Encyclopaedias, health and business information, Australian and overseas newspapers, magazines and much more
Inter-library loans for library members
If a particular title is not available in our library, we can request it from another NT library on your behalf

Tennant Creek Collection
The Tennant Creek Collection is local history collected from the Barkly Regional Council area. Material in the collection includes books, journals, newspapers, pamphlets, posters, maps, cassettes, videotapes, oral histories, photographs, reports, community information and ephemera. The Tennant Creek Collection is available to anyone researching Northern Territory history. As material in the collection is of a valuable nature it may only be used in the library.
