AUSTRALIA DAY NOMINATIONS OPEN NOW:
Acknowledge those who have contributed to our community, individuals or groups, by nominating them for a Local Government NT Australia Day Award in the following categories:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year (Female)
- Young Citizen of the Year (Male)
- Community Event of the Year
- Senior Citizen (Elder) of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
Nomination forms are now available from the Barkly Regional Council office and the Tennant Creek Library, 41 Peko Road.
They can also be downloaded from above and either emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or returned to the council office.
Forms must be returned by COB on Friday, 4 November, 2016.
Awards will be presented at the Flag Raising Ceremony at Battery Hill on Australia Day, 26 January, 2017.
ON THE DAY:
Start Australia Day 2016 with a 100m swim, 2km bike ride and 2km run for the annual Triathlon out at Lake Mary Ann from 6.15am to 7.15am. Contestants swim out to the pontoon in Lake Mary Ann and back, run up Lake Mary Ann Road for 1km and back again, then cycle 1km up and back.
Water will be provided. Please register early.

Once you've worked up a healthy appetite, head on up to Battery Hill at 8am for an Outback breakfast with Flag Raising Ceremony, Australia Day Address, Award Presentations and Citizenship Ceremonies.
From 12 noon onwards join in the fun at Lake Mary Ann for a family friendly afternoon of games, slip 'n' slide, boat rides, kids' corner and prizes.
There's a best dressed competition, tug of war, egg relay, raft race, triathlon, leaky bucket race and much more. Bus transfers will be available on the day.
